A year ago yesterday was the last day of a trip I took to Tucson, Arizona. My friends (Davis, Ryen and Bailey) and I had planned to go camping during our time there but due it being monsoon season and rain everyday we couldn’t make it work. With our determination to get into nature along with help from the AllTrails app, we were able to find a hiking trail close to town.
On the last day we woke up early and set out to the trail known as “Recoil Peak via Mosaic Trail”. Upon arrival at the trail head we realized no one packed water. Arizona is a literal desert with July being the hottest month of the year. Needless to say this was a not our greatest idea.
The hike started great! A gentle breeze and the songs of the native birds welcomed us. About half way through the hike Bailey and I decided to take a trail that would take us out of the valley, allowing us to see the neighboring mountains better.
We journey up the trail taking few breaks and trying not to slip on the rocks. We made it to the top and the view was breathtaking. I had never seen anything like it before. As I was taking in all the beauty I became thirsty. Remembering that we don’t have any water Bailey and I put some pep in our step to make it back to the trail head.
Thankfully we make it back to the car without any problems. The feeling of the A/C on my face was pure bliss. We all learned to never hike without water and that even at 8 am the dessert will have no mercy.
Although it wasn’t our best idea the hike was worth it in my book. The scenery and landscape was nothing like I’ve ever seen before. I’m excited to go back and see what else the desert has to offer!!
