Yooo, I am Elijah Riley and the founder of Big Gumdrop Outdoors. I am a 4th-year student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln studying Agricultural and Environmental Science Communication, Engler Entrepreneurship as well as Fisheries and Wildlife. I am a tutor within the Lincoln Public Schools helping high school students develop professional skills. I also have an internship with Platte Basin Timelapse, assisting with the overall production of the company.
I started this business when I was in high school to teach people about the outdoors. Over the last four years, I have gone through many pivots and growing pains, yet the business's core has stayed the same: Educating people about the Outdoors. This dedication to Outdoor Education is here to stay! I am passionate about nature and want all people to feel comfortable enjoying it. My ultimate dream is to travel the world exploring vastly different natural places and learning about the complexities that exist all around me.
With this business, I want to connect with under-served and under-represented communities. I want to give these groups the tools to understand the natural world better and encourage them to get out and explore. I will be doing this through afterschool programs within the Lincoln community, events, and online education. I am excited to see what the future holds and am so thankful for all the people who have supported me thus far. The sky is the limit and I will see y'all on top soon!
