5/21/22 - Little Park near Idledale, Colorado
My friend Jordan and I decided to go exploring after eating at Willie’s Wings in Morrison, Colorado. Our plan was to drive through Red Rocks. Due to an error in my navigation abilities we missed our turn and took a detour.
The new road followed Bear Creek, a mountain stream, and moved as the creek moved. There were constant twists and turns we were being consumed by the mountains towering high above.
After 20ish minutes of driving we decided to turn around. I pulled off on a street that led to Little Park.
We parked and started to explore the area around us. I loved learning the history of the park. Fun fact- The name comes from Calvin W. Little, a jeweler who sold his land to Mountain Parks Systems when he moved in 1917. Another one is that the building was originally a wellhouse for cars. Before engine coolant was around cars would overheat especially driving in the mountains. This wellhouse was a place to cool off your car on your journey through the Rocky Mountains.
I tried to take a picture of the creek but ran into problems. I tried to get closer to the action and while doing that I slipped and grabbed the tree next to me. That is when I saw a caterpillar. I’m not sure about the species (if you have a guess please put it in the comments!) I struggled a little with with my camera figuring out how far away I should be and my focus. Thankfully the caterpillar was in no hurry and I think they liked the lil photo sesh we had.
